Baseline Food Security Assessments

This course describes the purpose and features of baseline assessments and how they differ from action-oriented assessments. The course also provides guidance on selecting a baseline assessment method depending on the context, and on how to incorporate historical trends when conducting food security assessments.

Audience

The target audience of the e-learning course includes:

  • Mid-level managers, technical staff, field personnel who are involved in the collection, management, analysis, and reporting of food security information.
  • Planners, policy formulators and programme managers who are involved in monitoring progress in poverty reduction, and meeting food security goals and targets.

Content

The course consists of 3 lessons, of approximately 40 to 45 minutes duration each:

  • Lesson 1 Introduction to Baseline and Action-oriented Assessments
  • Lesson 2 Selecting a Baseline Assessment Method
  • Lesson 3 Monitoring Changes in Food Security
